Growing up in Sarawak with parents from different ethnic backgrounds (Chinese and Bidayuh) and moving frequently has taught me how to adapt to changing circumstances. I have experienced life in both rural and urban areas, and have seen firsthand how limited resources and lack of education can impact people's lives, leading to mistreatment, teenage pregnancy, and dropping out of school. It is important to recognize that sometimes it is not just individuals, but the entire system that needs to change in order for people to improve their situation. I believe we can start by making positive changes in our own lives, no matter how difficult it may be. My experiences have given me a deep sense of empathy and a desire to make a positive impact in the world. In my professional pursuits, I hope to utilize my skills and strengths to help create systemic change that benefits those who are marginalized and in need of support.
I specialize in sexology because I truly believe that we have the power to create change within the systems we live in. Although it may not be an easy path in Malaysia, I believe that by taking small steps and making changes within our control, we can have a huge impact on the system and make society more fair for everyone. After working in sexology for almost five years, I came to understand that sexual issues are influenced by a variety of factors, such as our backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences, which shape our sexual relationships with ourselves and others. As a result, I decided to pursue a second master’s degree in Counselling. Now, as a sexologist who is also a professional counsellor, I am ready to support my clients in all areas of need whether or not they are related to sexuality. I draw on my training in ACT, EMDR, Systemic Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as Inner Child/Parts work to help my clients in all areas of life including relationship struggles, childhood trauma, and even work-related challenges.
I have diverse experiences in various fields before becoming an associate at Rekindle Therapy. I have worked with children with learning difficulties such as dyslexia in a child psychology center for 2 years. In addition, I have 2 years of experience studying and working in Perth, Australia with the Western Australia Aids Council (WAAC) and volunteering with The Red Cross Australia. I have worked as a sexologist at a women's health center for almost 4 years. During my 10-month clinical internship at Rekindle Academy, I was supervised by Eric Hiew and Dr. Johnben Loy, and prior to that, I completed a 7-month internship at All Women Action Society (AWAM), where I provided counseling services and legal advice to individuals who had experienced domestic violence, sexual harassment, stalking, blackmail, and other related issues. Currently, I am an NGO member for RRAAM and AWAM. I am a passionate advocate for sexual and mental health rights, and I have given presentations on sexual education to a variety of audiences, including the public, university students, and private organizations. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and five cats, as well as exploring new places, trying new things, and meeting new people.
Seeking help for sexual concerns can be difficult, but I want you to know that there's always hope for a better life. As a mental health therapist who is sex positive, kink-aware, and LGBTQ+ affirmative, I am here to create a safe and comfortable environment for my clients to discuss any topic without fear of judgment. My role is to empower you and remind you that you have what it takes to get through tough times. It might seem overwhelming now, but we can work together towards healing and growth.
