Heading

I believe that we are all unique and have within us the capability to master the challenges in our lives. Everyone makes mistakes, and that’s OK. I believe that when we are ready, with the right knowledge and skills, we can make the changes necessary to become our more effective selves.

I came into the field of mental health as a result of my personal journey of growth from being a career woman to a stay-home-mom. In my twenties, I was a young career woman working in the banking, property, and hospitality sectors, holding positions of negotiator, assistant sales manager, and general manager. I transitioned to becoming a stay-at-home mom in my thirties, blessed with three children, two of whom are twins. Although the transition was challenging, it opened up for me new possibilities of self-understanding and growth. As a result of seeking and receiving help for myself, I am now blessed to be in a position to help others.

I am a licensed and registered counsellor in Malaysia, having completed my Masters in Counselling (HELP University) in February 2019. As part of my masters’ programme, I served as a clinical intern at Rekindle Academy from January 2018 to December 2018 receiving supervision from many members of the clinical team. At Rekindle Academy, I worked with adolescents and adults through individual and couples therapy, and helped clients with issues such as anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem, depression, loss of identity, parenting issues, communication difficulties, substance-use disorder, self-harm, and obsessive compulsive disorders.

My special areas of interest include challenges in multiple-birth parenting (i.e. twins, triplets), trauma, addiction, work-related stress, and transitioning from career to stay-at-home parenting. I also see clients through Rekindle's Employee Assistance Programme, and I am on the team to help develop Rekindle's emerging Addiction Recovery Programme.

My approach in therapy is to journey alongside you in self-exploration and healing. My base therapeutic modalities are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Choice Theory Reality Therapy (CTRT). Depending on your level of comfort, I integrate techniques and tools from CBT and CTRT, to help you to have a clearer understanding of your issues, and also to develop plans to move towards solutions. Where appropriate, I will also incorporate mindfulness techniques to help you manage upsetting emotions and be more grounded as you journey towards your more effective future. For clients who are struggling with deeper trauma issues (e.g. childhood abuse), I use Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a very powerful empirically supported treatment, to help them overcome and resolve those trauma memories. I have found that clients who have received healing from traumatic memories do especially well in moving towards new possibilities. In addition to the above, I have also received in anger management, addiction therapy, and relationship psychoeducation (PREP).

I find great satisfaction in seeing clients heal and grow. I believe that you are the master of your own life, and I look forward to journeying with you as you discover the path to your more effective self -- the true you!
